PE Lessons 2017/18

Year 3 Tennis

The year 3's have been working on Tennis is Spring 2 term. This has involved working at first without the racquet to get footwork and control of the correct technique before moving onto using the racquet to control the ball then play rallies in upcoming lessons.

AW said " We aren't using the racquets yet so we get used to playing the shots in the right way. We have used our hands as the raquet to hit the ball to our partner in the ready position"

Year 5 and 6 Hockey

In year 5 and 6 children have been playing adapted games of Hockey each week to focus on the area of the game we have been working on eg: passing, postional play, shooting. Children made adaptations  to the game throughout to make it both harder and easier. We played a gaame that chidlren had to focus on playing in their zone, like netball with attackers and defenders and one floating player who could move between the zones.

EJ suggested "If we have two floating players then it will make it easier for the attackers to score"

LMH said "We should have the attackers retreat behind the blue line so it is easier for defenders to play out and not get stuck"

Year 5 Gymnastics

Children have been working on various things in Gymnastics this half term including safely using the equipment. In their latest lesson they worked on using strength, flexibility and stability to work in partnership to perform mirror balances.

Year 6 Basketball and pupil voice

Year 6 have been practising different basketball skills such as dribbling, shooting and passing and using them in game situations. This week we worked on piggy in the middle then adapted the game to make the game area smaller based on children's suggestions to change the game.

HS said "This made the game more difficult as it gave less space and allowed the defender to get closer.

The children then suggested adding an extra defender.

RS said " It made the game more tricky because we had to move more to create space for passes and try to watch where both defenders were"

Year 2 Total Gymnastics

Since September our year 2 children have been working with one of the amazing coaches from Beth Tweddle's Total Gymnastic academy. They have been working on travelling in lots of different ways such as forward and backward rolls and cartwheels, improving their balances and using our gymnastic equipment. Check out some of the great movement going on in the picture below.

Year 4 pupil voice

In our football lessons the children have been working on keeping possession of the football and dribbling with control. They have also been doing this when faced with opposition attempting to take the ball off them. The children also made suggestions on how to make the game difficult and explained what skills they needed to use. See what they have to say below.

Bleep Tests

To test the children's current fitness they have all undertaken a bleep test at the start of the 2017/18 year. By taking part in weekly PE lessons, After school sports, The Daily Mile and being more active the children are hoping to improve their scores by Christmas.

Year 5 Football

Year 5 have been using their developing passing and movement skills to play a modified game where goals are scored by playing a successful pass to someone in space in the scoring zone. Children have also adapted the game with their own ideas.

Year 4 Hockey

Year 4 were working on combining dribbling and shooting skills in a fun game where they played in teams. Players could get more points if they shot accurately into the corner of the goal. LH said "it was a fun game and we could improve it by adding defenders that you have to go past"

Year 1 and 2 Multi-skills

In year 1 and 2 children have been working on moving in different ways and using these to play competitive games. In year 1 children have been inside moving in different animal movements across the hall, with tall animals such as giraffes, animals that crawl such as snakes and animals that require jumping or balances like rabbits and crabs. In year 2 children have been moving in a variety of ways to collect beanbags from the centre. Children moved from hoop to hoop and could get more points for hopping.

Year 5 Circuit Training

As well as improving physical fitness children have been aiming to challenge themselves each week and have been timing themselves with our new stopwatches. Over the term children are hoping to much improved scores.

Year 2 Multiskills

In Year two children have been working on further developing their fundamental movement skills, combining travelling in different ways with throwing and catching different size balls. In autumn two they have been working on simple basketball dribbling skills with Mr Pownall and with Mr Ellis they have been working on manipulting objects and catching in combination with different types of movement. Some types of movement that the children have suggested have included skipping, leaping, galloping and side stepping.

Smile for a mile

All classes are taking part in at least one mile a week, with some doing up to 4. This has been proven to make children more active while also improving concentration in the classroom. Our teachers have even been pulling on their trainers and joining in.!

Year 4 Football

Year 4 have been working on moving effectively with the wall and have been combining this  with passing to people in space. Children have discussed the importance of verbal and non verbal communication to achieve success in their games.
