On Tuesday 13th November, Miss Curtis and Mrs Mitchell took 3 year 6 children and 3 year 5 children down to Droylsden Academy for a ‘Maths Battle’ against 4 other local primary schools. Once we arrived Mrs Mitchell brought back the minibus and the battle began. First, we did a maths relay race. We had to go to a table in the centre of the room and collect a question with a year group on it i.e., year 5 or year 7. (The year 7 member of our team was a pupil who had been at Greenside last year. He was a great help!) You answered the question, took it back to the table and got it checked by the teacher. If it was correct you were given the next question. There were 30 questions in total. At the end of this round we were in third place.
The next thing we did was a maths treasure hunt. There were problems on the wall with an answer above them. You solved the problem and then went to another problem which had that answer above it. We finished this first and moved up to second place.
After this we moved into the auditorium for the final maths battle! Each team was given very tricky questions to answer. If you got the answer wrong the next team answered it. After all the questions were answered the teachers from the Academy totaled the final results. There was just one point between the winning team and the team in second place. We finished a wonderful second and were vey proud of our silver medals!
